Collection: Eastern Bluebird

The male Eastern Bluebird is a great bird to get one into birdwatching, with his brilliant blue on the back and the rusty red on the breast. They're mainly insect eaters with an affinity for ground insects. In the Fall they will eat berries too. This bird had some challenges back in the early 20th century when introduced species like the European Starling and House Sparrow reduced the Bluebird's nest hole options. Nest box campaigns have helped quell that competition and the Eastern Bluebird now thrives.
